Thanksgiving in San Antonio

(All photos in this post courtesy of Nick and Heather S.)

This year, we decided to share Thanksgiving with friends who live in San Antonio: Nick and Heather and their 3 children.  We spent our weekend cooking, riding bikes, playing at the park, and going out on a date night (hiring two babysitters to watch the 7 children. Yay!!)  Thanksgiving is our absolute favorite holiday as a family -- I tried to get around to blogging about our weekend sooner, but the month of December has been crazy busy, and I haven't seemed to be able to find the time.  So here we are!

Greg and Nick took the children to a park to keep them out of the kitchen while Heather and I cooked...and cooked...and cooked.

Super delicious -- I want a gas grill too!

Heather and I made SO MUCH FOOD that we didn't end up needing to cook again for the rest of the weekend.

For posterity, here are the dishes that we made with links to recipes where applicable.  (Hopefully I'm not forgetting anything...)

Me:
Corn Custard with Chorizo and Mushrooms
Brown Butter and Scallion Mashed Potatoes
Chestnut, Prune, and Pancetta Stuffing
Brussels Sprouts with Maple and Bacon
Cracked Wheat Rolls
Marinated Flank Steak
Hearts of Romaine salad with shallot vinaigrette

Heather:
Sweet Potato Casserole
Green Bean Casserole (unlike any I've ever had before -- made with fresh green beans, etc. Loved it!)
Scallops with bacon and white wine
Smoked Turkey

Apple Pie
Sweet Potato Pie
Buttermilk Chess Pie
