The Dead Weather @ Stubb's Austin

This past Friday night I had the opportunity to see the band, The Dead Weather perform at one of my favorite Austin venues, Stubb's Barbeque. Stubb's is part restaurant, part outdoor music stage right in downtown Austin. I've actually never been to the restaurant but their amphitheater-like outdoor stage has been an Austin mainstay for many years.

For the uninitiated, The Dead Weather are somewhat of a super group, featuring Allison Mosshart (The Kills & Discount) on vocals, Jack White (The White Stripes & The Raconteurs) on drums and occasional guitar, Dean Fertita (Queens of The Stone Age) on lead guitar and keys, and Jack Lawrence (The Greenhornes & The Raconteurs) on bass. Their style blends a unique, sort of unclassifiable modern rock sound with more straightforward blues-influenced rock. And although they've only been together for a little over a year, they (as could be expected) are really really good, and their second full-length, Sea Of Cowards comes out on May 10th.

The event actually sold out three weeks previous, but of course I had already gotten two tickets for Faith and I. However, after purchasing them I decided to send Faith to the Maryland Sheep & Wool Festival for her birthday this past weekend (post forthcoming). So I easily sold my extra ticket to one of the many bystanders trying to get into the event.

In the background of this photo you can see one of their very well-dressed roadies (all were decked out in black suits, fedoras and silk, dark blue ties).

Overall it was a great show, and they'll be on tour through the beginning of August so definitely check it out!
